Global Affairs Canada (GAC), Thailand’s Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP) and WINS met to launch a new project to strengthen nuclear security capacity in Thailand and the Southeast Asia region.
Running through June 2025, this programme will support the management of competency and training, particularly in the fundamental areas of nuclear security culture, information and cybersecurity, and the secure transportation of radioactive material.
This project will build on WINS’ previous collaboration with GAC and OAP for the Development of Sustainable Nuclear Security Training in Thailand, expanding the focus to the wider Southeast Asia region. Our prior work will support these regional activities, allowing countries to learn from and support each other with shared experiences, lessons learned and promulgation of best practices.
“We are excited to build on the success of our efforts in Thailand to develop locally sustainable radioactive source security competence throughout the Southeast Asia region,” WINS Programme Manager Raquel Delgado said.
Through the project, new information products, webinars, roundtables, workshops, and training courses will be offered. These efforts will also be supported by scholarship opportunities from the WINS Academy.
