Earlier this month, WINS spoke with Aditya Mandava, Radiological Safety Officer from AdvanceTech Controls, after he became a WINS Academy Ambassador. In this interview, Mr Mandava discusses his experience at the WINS Academy as well as what being a WINS Academy Ambassador means to him.

1.) What was your elective for the WINS Academy? Why did you choose it?
I chose the elective Nuclear Security for Scientists, Technicians and Engineers at the WINS Academy, because it directly aligns with my work responsibilities. As I regularly collaborate with scientific officers and technicians, this course will greatly benefit me in enhancing my knowledge and skills in nuclear security. It will enable me to identify and mitigate security threats, implement robust measures, and ensure the safe handling of nuclear materials. Additionally, I anticipate valuable networking opportunities and practical insights that will make me a more effective professional in this field.
I am also currently enrolled in the Radioactive Source Security Management course and plan to complete the module and take the certification examination. This course further complements my expertise in ensuring the safe management of radioactive sources.
By pursuing these electives, I aim to broaden my knowledge, strengthen my skills, and become a more effective professional in the field of nuclear safety and security.
2.) What inspired you to become a WINS Academy Ambassador?
I was inspired to become a WINS Academy Ambassador, because I believe in the mission and values of the organisation. The opportunity to represent the Academy and contribute to its initiatives is something I find truly exciting. As an ambassador, I would have the platform to showcase my passion for nuclear security, connect with like-minded individuals, and promote the importance of this field. I am eager to leverage this role to raise awareness, share my experiences, and inspire others to pursue careers in nuclear security. Being a WINS Academy Ambassador would not only allow me to highlight my profile but also contribute to the greater goal of advancing nuclear security worldwide.

4.) How has your WINS Academy training shaped your understanding of nuclear security threats and risks?
The WINS Academy training has greatly shaped my understanding of nuclear security threats and risks. Through the courses, I have gained insights into various threats, vulnerabilities and consequences related to nuclear materials and facilities. This training has equipped me with the knowledge to assess risks, develop mitigation strategies, and contribute to global efforts in nuclear security.

Advancing gender equality, diversity, and inclusion in my field would bring diverse perspectives, foster innovation, and create a more equitable and productive work environment. It would break down biases, attract top talent, and enhance overall success in the field.
