WINS held a webinar on "Exploring the Role of Artificial Intelligence in Strengthening the Security of Nuclear Facilities" to review the latest advancements in AI applications for physical security in nuclear facilities. It will explore how AI can enhance security by improving threat detection, monitoring, and response capabilities. Key topics included:

  • Video Surveillance and Monitoring (Facial Recognition, Object Detection, Behavioral Analysis)
  • Intrusion Detection (Data Integration, Anomaly Detection, Pattern Recognition)
  • Response (Automated Alerts, Scenario Prediction, Real-time Situational Awareness)
  • Open-Source Intelligence (Information Gathering, Threat Assessment)
  • Education (Personalized Training, Tailored Exercises)
  • Legal and Ethical considerations
  • AI applications in Cyber Security

Participants gained insights from those already using AI to enhance security, both within and outside the nuclear sector. This workshop also provided a platform to discuss strategies for identifying and integrating AI-based technologies into existing security programs, as well as share lessons learned and best practices from other industries. Additionally, the workshop addressed challenges and pitfalls in AI adoption and propose solutions for overcoming these hurdles.

The first day of the workshop was held on 10 December 2024 at 14:00 CET.
