Look for WINS at ICONS from 10-14 February 2020 in Vienna

We are excited to announce that we have created a very active programme showcasing our work in nuclear security during the upcoming International Conference on Nuclear Security: Sustaining and Strengthening Efforts (ICONS). Convened by the IAEA from 10 to 14 February 2020, the event is open to all 171 Member States of the IAEA as well as observer organisations, such as WINS, to discuss the future of nuclear security.

We have an exhibition space near the main entrance to the Rotunda of the Vienna International Centre. We invite conference participants to visit, speak with WINS staff and receive information on all of our programmes. A special feature of the exhibit will be the promotion of our new WINS Academy Certification Programme developed for Radioactive Source Security Management.

We are highlighting the outcome of our Global Nuclear Security Survey 2020. The report is part of our Special Report Series and is available on our website. A total of 730 nuclear security practitioners from 98 countries expressed their opinions on a range of important nuclear security issues: the current state of nuclear security, their priorities for the future and their predictions about significant nuclear security incidents.

We strongly encourage ICONS participants to become WINS members. WINS members have access to all WINS publications, receive regular newsletters and form part of an extensive international network of nuclear security professionals.

On Wednesday evening, we will host an innovative theatre event, which is by invitation only, at Wolke 19. The production, titled “Pay Up or Melt Down”, will pose challenging questions about cybersecurity and the measures and support needed in the event of a cyberattack. We are very pleased that Her Excellency Ambassador Heidi Hulan will open the theatre event on behalf of the sponsor, the Government of Canada.

Our staff will be active in the technical programme throughout the week. Executive Director Dr Roger Howsley will be sharing the outcome of a cross-sector benchmarking study comparing the aviation and nuclear sectors’ approaches to security. The Executive Summary of this important and ground-breaking report will be available at the WINS exhibition space and on our website. Head of Engagement and Sustainability Ms Rhonda Evans will speak about nuclear security capacity building, and Senior Advisor Mr Dan Johnson will make an interactive content presentation on WINS’ programme in support of nuclear security training and support centres.

As part of the our WINS Gender Champions Programme, we will host a lunchtime side event on Women in Nuclear Security in collaboration with the Nuclear Threat Initiative and the World Nuclear Association. We look forward to seeing many ICONS participants at our side event.

All of the programme details are set out below.

If you need to contact us please visit us at our exhibition space or write to us at info@wins.org.
