WINS Executive Director Dr Roger Howsley to Retire

Dr Roger Howsley has announced his intention to retire as WINS’ Executive Director at the end of August.

“It has been an honour and privilege to serve as the first Executive Director of WINS and to have been invited to co-found the organisation back in 2008. Since then, we have worked tirelessly to promote effective management practices to secure nuclear and other radioactive materials wherever they are used, and we have built an international community of professionals in over 140 countries who share our objectives. I wish to thank the staff and Board members for their essential contributions and the thousands of professionals and subject matter experts that believe in and support WINS. Unfortunately, the years go by faster than we all would like, and the time is right to pass the baton to a successor,” Dr Howsley said of his decade-long tenure at WINS.

WINS Board Chairman William Tobey lauded Dr Howsley’s service, saying,

“Roger is a nuclear security hero. As the founding director of WINS, he made our world safer. His relentless commitment to excellence in nuclear security showed every day in workshops, best practice guides and training through the WINS Academy. We all owe him a debt of gratitude for his work to advance professionalism among those responsible for fissile and radioactive materials. He has also given WINS a solid foundation to continue its important work into the future. These contributions are significant and will be lasting.”

The WINS Board will oversee the selection of Dr Howsley’s successor. The vacancy notice can be found here and applications should be sent to: EDvacancy@WINS.org

The closing date for applications is 17 July 2020.
