Excellent learning and peer-to-peer networking opportunities with a cross-section of the nuclear industry.
The world’s first certified professional development programme for individuals in nuclear security management.
An extensive archive of information on nuclear security, both from WINS and from external sources.
Helping licensees assess the maturity of their security programme and measure their security culture effectiveness.
Ms Cathleen Roughan, Team Leader of the Source Management Unit in the IAEA’s Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Waste Technology Division, spoke about her past collaboration with WINS.
“I have participated and presented at several WINS events both as an employee of the IAEA and also in my previous tenure as Safety and Security Officer at a radioactive source manufacturing facility. I have always found them to be very informative and relevant to the important topics regarding security, especially regarding radioactive sources. The workshops are very engaging and interactive and create a great atmosphere for discussions and networking.
“The IAEA presented at the recent WINS workshop on the Security of Disused Radioactive Sources, which highlighted the various activities the IAEA provides to assist in the end of life management of disused sealed radioactive sources. The presentation covered the work done on the Coordinated Research Project for borehole disposal; the launch of the new professional network DSRSNet; and an overview of the Disused Sources Integrated Decision Evaluation Support Tool, which assists Member States in making informed decisions about disposal of disused sealed radioactive sources.
“The IAEA has participated in several WINS workshops on related topics; they provide a great opportunity to share the work of the IAEA with interested colleagues and help further the work of both the IAEA and WINS to continue to enhance the safety and security of radioactive sources. WINS’ participation in IAEA activities such as the Code of Conduct on the Safety and Security of Radioactive Sources and the recently published Supplemental Guidance on the Management of Disused Sealed Radioactive Sources, is greatly appreciated.”
Ms Roughan will be leaving the IAEA in July for a new challenge, and the vacancy notice has been posted on the IAEA website.
