Empowering the Nuclear Sector: WINS and Lancaster University Host Cybersecurity Training for Industry Professionals

The World Institute for Nuclear Security (WINS), in collaboration with the Cyber Security Research Centre at Lancaster University and the Austrian institute of Technology (AIT), has successfully completed the fourth delivery of its flagship training course, Cybersecurity in the Nuclear Industry. Held in the UK, this in-person training brought together participants from across the UK’s nuclear sector to deepen their understanding of current cybersecurity challenges and practical solutions.

The course is designed to equip nuclear industry professionals with the latest knowledge and tools to implement and manage cybersecurity for information technology and operational technology, while also meeting the fundamental training requirements for the UK Government’s Civil Nuclear Cyber Security Strategy.

Delivered by cybersecurity experts from AIT and the UK nuclear industry. and enriched by real-world case studies on implementing and managing cybersecurity, the training also explored topics such as regulation for cybersecurity, cybersecurity for nuclear transport and cybersecurity for the nuclear supply chain.

Participants also benefited from hands-on sessions and peer discussions, reinforcing the value of collaborative learning in an evolving threat landscape.

“This training is essential for staying ahead of rapidly changing cyber threats. It helps professionals build the technical and strategic know-how needed to protect nuclear facilities and infrastructure,” said Roland Fletcher, Head of WINS Certification and Training. “Our collaboration with Lancaster University and AIT ensures the course is grounded in both academic insight and practical application.”

With a growing demand for cybersecurity competence across the nuclear industry, WINS continues to offer professional development opportunities aligned with international best practices and competency frameworks.
