Expanding Nuclear Security: WINS Signs Key MoUs and Fosters Regional Partnerships at the IAEA’s General Conference

During the week of this year’s IAEA General Conference, held from 16 to 20 September, WINS held several meetings with key stakeholders and partners, aimed at advancing nuclear security in specific regions around the world. These discussions focused on strengthening collaboration and addressing regional security challenges, as WINS continues to expand its presence and impact in these areas to promote higher standards of nuclear security globally.

Additionally, WINS signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoU), marking significant progress and reinforcing our commitment to advancing nuclear security efforts.

In particular, the ASEAN region was a particular focus for WINS during the week of the General Conference. First, WINS conducted a meeting with Malaysia’s Department of Atomic Energy to explore areas of potential collaboration in the future.

WINS also held a meeting with Prof. Nguyen Tuan Khai, Director General of the Vietnam Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Security (VARANS), to address key regional issues related to nuclear security.

In addition to these meetings, WINS renewed an MoU with Thailand’s Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP) to launch a series of new activities to further strengthen nuclear security capacity in Thailand and in the Southeast Asia region.

WINS is also seeking to broaden its reach further afield. In a significant milestone, WINS signed a new MOU with the Kenya Nuclear Regulatory Authority (KNRA). This agreement paves the way for both organisations to collaborate on various aspects of nuclear security, particularly in relation to the use of nuclear energy, technologies and applications.
