IAEA is Looking for a Cost Free Expert on the Management of DSRS

The IAEA is looking for a Sealed Source Expert for a position within the Waste Technology Section of the Division of Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Waste Technology. This is a cost-free expert (CFE) position under DOE funding.

The sealed source expert will fulfil several roles relating to the safe and secure management of disused sealed radioactive sources (DSRS). Duties will include providing advice to interested Member States on DSRS management, operations and training;  leading and implementing IAEA activities on waste management options;  developing solutions (both short and long term); leading expert missions involving hands-on work with DSRS; improving capacity in the Member States; and producing and reviewing documents relating to DSRS management.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced university (or equivalent) degree in engineering, nuclear technology, health physics, or a related field, preferably in radioactive waste management.
  • Minimum of seven years of hands on experience in radioactive source and device handling and related instrumentation and tooling, preferably at the international level working with developing countries.
  • Practical operational experience with radioactive source characterisation, handling, conditioning, transport and storage.
  • Project/contract management experience desirable.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English. Working knowledge of another official IAEA language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an advantage.
