Scholarship Opportunities Coming Soon for KPI’s Master’s Programme in Nuclear Security

Applications will soon open to Ukrainian students for five scholarship opportunities to pursue a Master’s Degree in Physical Protection and Accounting and Control of Nuclear Material at the National Technical University of Ukraine’s Ihor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (KPI).

With the generous support of the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (SSM), five selected students will be eligible for financial support up to 3300 EUR toward the cost of this specialised Master’s Degree.

This Master’s Programme – which is offered by the KPI Department of Atomic Energy and will be delivered in Ukrainian – starts October 2025. The duration of the programme will be a year and four months.

Topics covered in the programme include the following:

  • International and national legislation in physical protection
  • Accounting and control of nuclear material
  • Threat analysis and assessment (including insider threat)
  • Design and evaluation of physical security systems
  • Information and cyber security
  • Emergency and crisis management

This scholarship opportunity builds on the ongoing collaboration between WINS and KPI to support nuclear security education in Ukraine. In addition to the Master’s Degree, students may also benefit from WINS Academy offerings, including online and in-person training in Radioactive Source Security Management (RSSM)—with the option to become a Certified Nuclear Security Specialised Professional (CNSsP).

The application period for the Master’s Degree programme is expected to be open between 2-23 May 2025.
