WINS has launched a new video about the transition from cobalt-60 teletherapy devices to linear accelerators (Linacs) for cancer treatment in Senegal.
Launched at the IAEA Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Science, Technology and Applications and the Technical Cooperation Programme, this video highlights the potential for Linacs devices to eliminate radiological security concerns and provide effective, efficient patient care. It was developed with Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and the US National Nuclear Security Administration and spotlights the experience of Hospital Center National Sheikh Ahmadoul Khadim (Touba), Dalal Jamm Hospital (Dakar), and Carrefour Medical.
Acquiring and installing a Linacs device is a costly and complex process, requiring active support from the regulator, medical facility and other stakeholders. See the full video to understand how Senegal overcame the obstacles to become a leader in the region in cancer treatment.
