Earlier this week, the WINS team conveyed the following message to its Members and the general public:
The military invasion of Ukraine has dire consequences for its capacity as a sovereign nation to secure and protect nuclear and other radioactive material.
This directly impacts the health, security and safety of the people in Ukraine and has serious consequences for its neighbours.
The international order for the peaceful uses of nuclear and other radioactive material is under threat.
All of us must demonstrate our commitment to the safe and secure use of these materials for the benefit of humanity.
We condemn any military attacks on Ukraine’s nuclear infrastructure and express our support for those working hard to protect and secure these sites.
We call on WINS Members as a community to support these efforts and discuss with us and others the actions you believe WINS can take and those that you would like to support.
The nuclear security community needs to unite to secure and protect nuclear and other radioactive material.
