The United Nations Security Council has recognized that it is critical that women participate in decision-making processes in the international peace and security arena (UNSCR 1325). Unfortunately, there is a clear gender gap with respect to early career professionals, particularly in the field of disarmament and non-proliferation. It is important to both men and women to encourage robust participation of women in decision-making processes on peace-related issues and in the formulation of comprehensive strategies to develop public policies and laws. The Women Higher Education for Peace Vienna Forum aims at bringing attention to these issues.
The Forum will take place in Vienna, Austria, on July 5-6, 2016. The first day will feature panel discussions with experts on various disarmament and non-proliferation topics. On the 2nd day, participants will be invited to attend a job fair aiming at presenting the diverse career opportunities existing in the broad field of peace and development to early career professionals. Relevant expertise go beyond international studies and policymaking and includes diverse fields such as engineering, science, media, social sciences and many others.
Scholarships covering travel to Vienna, accommodation and living expenses are available for women from the Global South to facilitate their participation at the Forum. For more information about this event, click here.
